Green energy means generating energy from sources that emits as little as or no pollution at all. Whenever we burn fossil fuels like coal and petroleum, we are emitting too much carbon. But whenever we harness the sun, wind, or waves energy, there are minimal or no pollution at all.
For this article, we'll be discussing Wave Power.
Waves, as powerful as they are, are caused by the wind blowing over the surface of the ocean. Many would have loved to go surfing because of the gigantic waves of Hawaii or the Caribbean. These powerful forces have contributed greatly in the name of sporting, fishing and traveling. But with recent breakthrough, waves are now being considered as one of the green and renewable energies.
Waves sometimes vary in their intensity, but there some points in our world where the wind blows in a consistent force thus making the waves come in consistent intensity as well. In all areas of harnessing renewable energy, the more consistent the sources are, the better we can harness continuous energy source.
We've identified the desire and the need to harness the energy from the waves. The next question to discuss is: "where shall we harness it?" Well, as most of us know that the strongest waves comes not from the shoreline, but quite further. It's in a place where there are lesser sands, sandbars and other obstacle to block their forces, and that is in the deep waters. Waves need momentum to build and by not having any obstacles in their paths, it will be easy to gain momentum in the deep waters.
The problem now is how to create a machine that can harness wave power in deep waters. You might ask: has this been done before and how successful has it been? Well, the concept is a little bit hard to explain, but in simpler terms, the machine will be in a form a buoy so that it will bob above the water. The buoys are elongated in shape and are made up of connected sections that will flex and bend as it moves along the waves. And as these buoys flex and bend, this motion will be pumping high-pressured hydraulic oil into the hydraulic motor that will then drive the electrical generators.
The possibility of harnessing renewable energy is endless and limitless. The only thing that can hold us back is our imagination and physical capabilities! However, in one way or another, we're catching up and we're now seeing the possibility of using renewable energy. We'll just have to hope that soon, our technologies will be able to make these feasible.
